The University of Newcastle School of Creative Industries
The University of Newcastle opened its brand new Q Building in 2021. Located in Newcastle’s CBD the new venue will provide expanded Creative Industries facilities where students will study communication, media, film and television, events production, sound and music, animation and other fine art disciplines.
The building will also house the University’s Integrated Innovation Hub which fuels the success of innovators and entrepreneurs by connecting them to community, customers, coaching and capital.
Q Building is a mass timber construction, which makes it highly sustainable and unique. The konnectus design team were able to immerse the AV technology elements into the challenging built environment by working closely with the architect EJE, builder Hansen Yuncken, and other contractors during the planning and implementation phases.
The users of this exciting new facility will enjoy state of the art AV technology systems and a variety of spaces including video editing studios, sound recording and editing suites, small collaboration and meeting areas, different sized video conferencing rooms, and various flexible large presentation areas. Close attention has been paid to ensuring the technology is easy to use, and the input from the University’s AV and IT teams was critical to enable konnectus to deliver the right result on this project.
