Macquarie University – Graduation Hall
Throughout the course of 2019 to 2021 a team of consultants, designers, contractors, and head builder FDC Group worked together to deliver the Central Courtyard Precinct for Macquarie University on their main campus in Macquarie Park. The Central Courtyard Precinct is a multipurpose zone serving both educational purposes, as well as providing a modern social hub for the university.
A jewel in the crown of this new precinct is the brand-new Graduation Hall, which can seat up to 900 people at full capacity. This world class facility is used extensively in several ways including graduation ceremonies, student exams, group presentations and speaking engagements, and even external use like weddings and other ceremonies.
The interior design and architecture of this space is the creation of Architectus based out of Sydney, and the building services engineers on the project were Arup, also based out of Sydney. The konnectus team spent a great deal of time working closely with the Architectus and Arup teams to ensure the physical elements of the audio, video, control, and lighting systems were all well-coordinated. It was important to maintain the architectural beauty of the design whilst still ensuring the systems were high performance and easy to access for maintenance. The seamless integration of all elements has transformed the space into one the university can be proud to showcase and enjoy.
The sound system was 3D modelled by konnectus in collaboration with the loudspeaker manufacturer to ensure optimal listening experiences for all seats in the hall. Technologies in the space include full digital audio and video systems, high-definition cameras, infrared hearing assistance, wireless microphones, live streaming, digital recording, digital performance lighting system, and all can be easily controlled with flexibility from the elevated Bio Box at the rear of the hall.
