Bring Your Own Meeting (BYOM) is everywhere—at LinkedIn events, vendor webinars and, last week, in a feverish debate that lit up my inbox. A global client asked:

“Should we roll out BYOM meeting rooms so staff can launch Teams, Zoom or Webex from their laptops?”

Opinions flew. Yet nobody paused to test the question that matters most: Is BYOM the right fit for our workstyle and spaces? Below is the same BYOM decision tree I walk through with clients. Follow the arrows and you’ll know—before marketing spins your head.

1️⃣ Need Multi-Platform Flexibility?

If your teams must jump between Teams, Zoom, Meet and Webex and you can live with the feature gap between a laptop call and an in-room codec, tick “yes” and move on.

2️⃣ How Will Users Connect?

Keep it simple: one reliable path—wired or wireless—not both. Dual options sound helpful; in practice they double support calls.

• Wireless BYOM: great for guests, but bench-test first.
